About Lewisham Odeon
Opened in 1932 as the Gaumont Palace, the Lewisham Odeon was one of London's largest cinemas, boasting a seating capacity of 3,050. Designed in an Art Deco style, the venue featured full stage facilities, a Compton organ, and a restaurant at the circle level. In 1962, after being damaged by fire, it reopened as the Lewisham Odeon. Over the years, it hosted performances from iconic artists such as The Rolling Stones, The Who, Queen, and David Bowie. The venue closed in 1981 and was demolished in 1991 to make way for a road-widening project. A project which really did rip the heart out of the town of Lewisham.
