Original 1974 Italian pressing in beautiful condition.

This Italian LP featured the first release of these two important broadcasts although this music has since been reissued on CD. Miles Davis's Birth of the Cool nonet recorded a dozen influential performances during 1949-50 but only actually appeared in public for one gig: a two-week stint in 1948 as the intermission band at the Royal Roost for Count Basie's Orchestra. This set features nine performances taken from radio broadcasts and are near-classic. This version of the nonet features Davis, baritonist Gerry Mulligan, altoist Lee Konitz, pianist John Lewis and drummer Max Roach in addition to French horn, tuba, trombone and bass. Other than getting to hear "new" and extended versions of some of the Nonet's studio sides, this set offers otherwise unrecorded arrangements of "Why Do I Love You?" and "S'il Vous Plait."
