New Masters
New Masters came out late in 1967 as a swift follow up to Matthew & Son. There were some artistic differences between Cat, who was starting to yearn for a simple acoustic sound, and producer Mike Hurst, who favoured more lavish orchestral arrangements. Despite the album's modest commercial performance it did contain "The First Cut is the Deepest" which would go on to be a hit for a number of artists including P.P. Arnold, Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crow, and Keith Hampshire.
