Göteborg Electronic Soundmap
PRINTED ON RECYCLED CARD
Dimensions 500mm x 707mm
The influence of Electronic music in Göteborg has perhaps been overshadowed by Rock and Indie Music. But its influence has been no less profound. From early electro pioneers such as Cosmic Overdose and venues such as Klubb Swing, Göteborg was primed and ready to go when Rave hit. And hit it most definitely did. Illicit parties where buses would depart from Götaplatsen at Midnight to take people to ‘Raves in the wood’ were a common place in the late 80’s, as moral ensued around the harm that the exposure to ‘repetitive beats’ was doing do the flower of Sweden’s youth.
Dance music began populating Gothenburg’s more familiar club land as the now legendry club nights such as ‘Happiness,’ ‘Love,’ ‘Do Not Hate,’ and ‘Modesvisning’ started with DJs such as Robert Leiner, Stefan Andreasson, Mikael Byström, Yim Lodge and Ingrid Engarås behind the decks.
A full eco system was in place. Record shops such as Black Market Records and Global, and respected electronic record labels such as Progress, Kning Disk and Ideal started releasing Swedish material. Gothenburg’s mastery of the art of Electronica which can still be heard today by the likes of Fever Ray and Little Dragon.
Giving Gothenburg Electronic Scene is rightful place, this Sound Map hopes to chart the venues, labels, record stores and recording studios which we’re pivotal in this story.
