Original 1968 US pressing in beautiful condition.
Some very groovy big band work from Louis Bellson, working here in a Project 3 mode that's as much funky easy as it is jazz! The album's got some very tasty Varitone work by Pete Christlieb, blowing over the top of the group's vamping, chomping charts with a flatly soulful tone on the best numbers. The groove changes nicely from track to track – not entirely funky, but with some good swinging and mod moments that mix in some slight electric playing to the overall big band sound. Titles include "The Eel", "3 x 5 + 16", "The Oracle Speaks", "Breakthrough", "Moment Of Truth", and "Ode To Billy Joe".
