Occupying a unique sweet spot which few artists attain, Håkan is both a massive commercial success and critically acclaimed artist in Sweden. Although his star has not burned as brightly outside of his Northern Light, and for one simple reason - he does not sing in English. But like artist such Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Gal Costa or Serge Gainsbourg, the power of his music only really hits home when conveyed in his native voice.

Inimically connected with Gothenburg, Håkan was voted ‘Gothenburg Citizen of the Year’ in 2001, and from beginning his musical career with Gothenburg band Broder Daniel, he continues to work with a host of Gothenburg based musicians, such as Soundtrack of Our Lives, Vernoica Maggio, The Stoner and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.

A city which forms the backdrop to many of his videos, it is not an overstatement to describe Gothenburg as the muse to Håkan’s art.

Jazzhusett

The Jazzhuset closed its door as a music venue in 2017. Opening 40 years earlier in 1977, it was run by the Gothenburg Jazz Society with a focus on Trad and Dixieland. It was also a musical home for many established musicians from Gothenburg’s previous Beat and Rock N Roll era.

From the 90’s onwards however, fresh promoters started working at the venue, instigating what many have seen as a belle époque for Gothenburg Indie music. Clubs such as Gump and Lolita gave a platform to emerging Gothenburg talent, as well as giving exposure to a host of highly regarded international acts. This writer can personally attest to the buzz surrounding these and being at the back of a huge cue on a freezing Tuesday night waiting to get into Lolita. Glory days which Håkan himself recalls in his song Kom Igen Lena.

Peckham Soul Prints

Designed by Craig Jamieson, these prints explore the unique diversity of Gothenburg’s cultural and social history. Focusing on archive research, they draw on contemporaneous listing material to create completely original artwork.

All designs are silk screen lithographic printed and use 100% recycled and sustainable paper.
