King Krule (Peckham, 2016)
Born on the mean streets of Peckham King Krule would have known the Montague Arms, and may well have very well even sneaked in under-age before playing what was, by all accounts, a phenomenal gig. Taking place between his ‘A new Place to Drone’ Lp and ‘The Ooz’ LP, both King Krule’s critical acclaim and fan base were growing fast, giving fans a chance to see him in an intimate venue which he woulkd soon outgrow. A perfect backdop his art, as his formative experiences of growing up in South East London are central to both the energy and themes of his unique work.
Montague Arms (289 Queens Rd, Peckham)
From the idiosyncrasy of its taxidermy décor and the legendary status of pub guvnor Peter Hoyle and wife Bet, the Montague Arms was the very embodiment of South London pub culture throughout the 1960’s and 70’s. It even released a series of live albums on its very own ‘Montague Arms’ label. With the help of inspired local promoters, it also managed to stage gigs by a number of highly influential bands and breaking artists.
Peckham Soul Prints
Designed by Craig Jamieson, these prints explore the unique diversity of South London’s cultural and social history. From archive research, they draw on contemporaneous listing material to create original graphic artwork not actually designed at the time, as well as uncovering original prints from the era.
All designs are silk screen lithographic printed and use 100% recycled and sustainable paper.
