The second Deep Soul release is Little Ann’s Dave Hamilton-produced ‘Deep Shadows’. Recorded in Detroit in 1967, the track has grown steadily in the rare soul public’s esteem ever since its CD debut in 1998; it has even been covered by new bands and has featured in a very atmospheric Jordan trainers ad. On the B-side is the superb ballad ‘Stay Away’ by Los Angeles vocal group the Turn Arounds. Cut in Atlanta in 1966, it has the feel of a classic Chess recording, which is no doubt exactly what the group was trying to achieve.
